📌The European Open Rivers Programme offers grants to support projects that lead to the removal of small dams and the restoration of river flow and biodiversity.
❗The creation of the European Open Rivers Programme was informed by two years of research and stakeholder engagement which revealed that around one million dams are fragmenting European rivers and that there is much potential and need for dam removal.
❗Our programme offers funding under two main categories: 👇
👉Programme-supported dam removals (Categories A1-A4): For projects that identify, prepare for and then remove dams to restore river flow and biodiversity.
👉Enabling others to remove dams (Category B): to support dam removal preparatory work when funding for the dam removal is secured from an alternative source.
❗We encourage eligible applicants to submit projects that align with our core mission of river restoration, particularly those aimed at restoring at least 10 km of river to its natural flow.👉 This is a unique opportunity to secure funding for transformative environmental projects that will have a lasting impact on European river ecosystems.
